10.14.21 An Effective Alarm Clock: Recognizing God‘s Wake-up Calls in Our Lives

October 14, 2021

Sometimes it take a loud or abrasive sound to wake us from a deep sleep. Similarly, God sometimes allows inconvenient, unpleasant and even sometimes offensive experiences as a way to wake us from unhealthy though patterns and lifestyles. While at the time it may strike as as unpleasant, these often serve as a grace in that they can steer us towards more productive living... if we listen. Mark 11:15-18; John 2:14-16

10.12.21 Cutting the Pie: How to Identify Our Real Enemy

10.12.21 Cutting the Pie: How to Identify Our Real Enemy

October 12, 2021

Times of pain and uncertainty can bring an even greater confusion when it comes to identifying the source of our pain. That can often leave us turning on one another, rather than banding together to fight the real issue. In reality, the enemy in all circumstances comes from the same source, and it is not flesh and blood. 1 Peter 2:13-16; Ephesians 6:10-17; 2 Chronicles 7:14

I want to thank Athena Dean Holtz for the insights I gained in this area from her "Redeemed and Restored" podcast, which among other things explains the background for the title of today's post. 10.11.21 Yes and Amen: Resting in God‘s Promises

October 11, 2021

Being able to sleep on quality, comfortable bedding often significantly increases our quality of rest. Similarly, when we know and rely upon God's promise for our lives, and when we act accordingly, we bring a supernatural peace and rest to our entire lives. II Corinthians 1:15-23

The tragedy of King Jehoram's life and death reminds us of how important it is to choose which influences we follow, because that will effect both our own life and those around us. II Chronicles 22.

10.06.21- Clean Your Lenses: How to See Ourselves With Clarity

10.06.21- Clean Your Lenses: How to See Ourselves With Clarity

October 9, 2021

Like glass, our spiritual vision has a tendency to get murkier if not cleaned regularly, and over time that obstructs our ability to see ourselves and others with clarity. Jeremiah and Lamentations tell a tragedy of decay and destruction that happened when the murky vision of God's people led to their destruction as a nation.  Yet within the tragedy the Prophet Jeremiah speaks of a hope and renewal that will come when they check their spiritual vision and return to God.  Jeremiah; Lamentations

October 8, 2021

When faced with a battle he could not win, King Jehoshaphat of Judah chose not to fight it in his own strength. Rather, he turned to the Lord through prayer as his first and only resort. That made all the difference. 2 Chronicles 18-20

10.01.21 The Jesus Factor: Why Christ‘s Divinity Matters

October 1, 2021

There are a lot of beliefs and goals that are shared across many religions.  But the reality of the trinity is one major area that sets Christian belief apart. In this post, I (Karen Pennington) explore one aspect of the trinity, the dual nature of Christ, how we know it's real and why it matters so much to believers.  John 1:1-14; Genesis 1:1; 1 Corinthians 1:18

09.29.21 Too Much, but Not Enough: How to Cultivate and Appetite For the things of God

09.29.21 Too Much, but Not Enough: How to Cultivate and Appetite For the things of God

September 29, 2021
When we indulge only our appetite for junk food, we often overeat and end up feeling worse off, even less nourished. But cultivating and feeding cravings for healthier foods will nourish us and leave us feeling much more satisfied. As with food, cultivating healthy cravings for the things of God, rather than just the things God can give, leads to a much healthier, happier life. Psalm 78; Matthew 5:3

09.28.21 Say What? Learning to See and Hear the World from God‘s Perspective

September 28, 2021

So much of our strife in life can come from a misunderstanding of what we see and hear around us. By seeking God daily we can cultivate a divine perspective that breads peace and contentment even in the face of otherwise confusing circumstances. Luke 24
